Did you know that women who have a horse live 15 years longer than those who do not?
Having a pet is always fun. Many studies show that older people who have a pet feel better. It turned out that communication with the horse can also be beneficial.
The experiment was conducted in North Virginia, West North Carolina and North Florida. Researchers watched women who had horses for decades to find out how communicating with the horse would affect the owner’s health.
It turned out that the owners of these animals lived 15 years longer than women who had no horses. Horses are good for your health.
The results were amazing. The researchers used the double blind method, according to which women were divided into two groups. For 40 years, experimenters have observed how communication with horses affects women's health. By the end of the research, surprising facts were discovered. Women who had horses lived 15 years longer. Moreover, the effect did not depend on age and nationality. Experimenters even obtained data from 50 countries to make sure their results were accurate. It turned out that owning a horse can be extremely beneficial for your health.
Some women owned horses for only a few years, and the researchers decided to clarify what exactly was considered “horse ownership.”A woman was considered the owner of a horse only if she had a horse for more than 5 years. In Spain, women lived 16.5% longer if they had a horse. For American women, the difference in life expectancy was about 14.7%.
Why did this happen?
Although scientists knew that owning a horse was good for health, they were not sure why that was. We hope that doctors, psychologists and biologists continue research to find out why this is happening.
There are several theories about why horses influence us so well.
When you have a horse, you often have the opportunity to be outdoors. You can practice with your horse and communicate with other horse owners. Studies have shown that women who had horses were less likely to suffer from heart attacks, high blood pressure, or diabetes. Any horse owner will tell you that these animals make them happier.
Experimenters cannot determine why the results of the study were so impressive. Probably, the reason lies in the combination of several factors. Extra exercise, communication, and outdoor activities are just a few of the reasons why using a horse is good.
Whatever the reason, the study is yet another proof of how wonderful it is to own an animal.
