Mr. Ocean, or Canine Beauty Contest
When I was 11 years old I really liked to watch various beauty contests on TV - "Miss World", "Miss Universe" and the like. Over time, I became interested in the origins of such contests. It was interesting to know that they had gone since the days of Ancient Greece, when the three main beauty goddesses, Hera, Athena and Aphrodite, competed. One of the main meanings of such contests was to marry the winner. For example, in Ancient Babylon, after a beauty contest, the winner was awarded not only the title of the main beauty, but also the price for which it was subsequently possible to buy the girl from the family and marry her. And in the tribes of Australia only unmarried girls participated in the competition, and they competed naked. The winner was the best bridegroom of the tribe. In Russia, too, for a long time, the tsar's wife was elected as a result of a contest to which girls from all over the state were required to bring.
A little later, when I began to become more interested in different tailed ones, I had a question: “But what about our smaller brothers? And it turns out that both dogs and cats, and even iguanas and parrots have their own beauty contests, better known as exhibitions. But, since Ocean’s blog is doggy, we’ll dwell in more detail on dog shows. And, believe me, they, in fact, are not inferior in terms of entertainment to beauty contests in people. And even the meaning of holding exhibitions is very similar to the origins of the beauty contest for bipedists, because it is at exhibitions that you can meet the parents of promising offspring.
And especially important are dog shows for dogs. As my friend says: “Everything is like in life. This girl can be just beautiful and healthy, and the boy must be super-duper. " And after all, our Ocean is just a guy, and now we know that without high-profile victories at exhibitions, few people can be interested in us. As a manufacturer ... And we went. Let's go to our first exhibition.
The first thing we learned is that the dog should perform in its age category:
I. Babyki (3 - 6 months)
II. Puppies (6 - 9 months)
III. Juniors (9 - 15 months)
IV. Middle class (from 15 to 24 months)
V. Adults or Open class (15 months - 8 years)
VI. Work class (pets with a certificate of completion of a training course)
IX. Veterans (over 8 years old).
Ocean had a debut, he performed in the baby category. And, as you know, babies and puppies are not yet assigned titles, but only ratings: no prospects, small prospects, promising, very promising. Those puppies that have been rated “promising” and “very promising” have great potential in the future to participate in exhibitions, and most importantly, of course, for breeding. And Ocean was rated "very promising."
Also in the baby class, dogs that rank 1st separately by gender are compared to each other, and the winning dog can be awarded the title “Best Baby of the Breed”. And handsome Ocean was awarded this title and got into the best, which we waited for a long, long time.Indeed, between the exit of our gentleman, where he got his “great prospect,” and a run in bests, more than 5 hours passed. But he did not lose time in vain: he managed to meet friends, give interviews, brag about his achievements and quarrel with the bull terrier.
It happens that they ask us: "Have you been preparing for the exhibition?" And here, it seems to me, everything is just like in people - you can’t get ready. We worked with the handler, bought the ammunition, the day before the show, we began to put in order: we cut our nails, washed our coats with shampoo for white dogs, combed each hair for a long time, and in the morning we applied powder and became a real dandy, so Mr. Ocean was ready for victory!
