French Bulldog: owner reviews. “There are no two identical French bulldogs!”
All French bulldogs are different. It would seem: one litter, raised in the same conditions, eat the same thing - but they are completely different from each other!
French bulldogs are in themselves diverse dogs. Weight can vary from 8 to 14 kg, that is, almost twice. And each is a kind of personality. It is impossible not to love them!
Why exactly French bulldogs?
Before that, we had bullmastiffs, and almost every time we put them out, there were rings of French bulldogs nearby, so we often watched them. They are smart, energetic, and we can say that this is a small copy of the bullmastiff.
Big dogs, on the other hand, are pretty hard. In addition, when our bullmastiffs died, I did not want to stir up my soul and take the same breed.
When we took the "French", we had no doubt that we would not lose.
What is the character of the French bulldog?
They are very different in nature.
For example, one of our dogs is very calm, noble and can just lie all day. And if people come across such a dog, they will say that the French bulldogs are balanced, quiet creatures.
And the other dog from the same litter is just a bullet. She does not sit still, runs, jumps almost to the ceiling.
Everyone loves their breed, but I believe that for dogs and for home, these dogs are almost perfect.
From experience: Our oldest dog loves children very much. They roll it in a stroller, and swaddle, that just do not. The most interesting: it would seem that when the children arrive, the dog should hide! On the contrary - she herself climbs to them.
At the same time, dogs are disciplined. For example, my 6-year-old child understands that he needs to clean his shoes and not scatter toys.
But there are French bulldogs who are not happy with the society of children. I have not heard that the "French" bit someone, but they either tolerate the manifestations of childish love, or try to leave.
In any case, when a puppy appears in the family, the child learns to love, care for another creature, learns just not to live alone, so a dog in the family is a plus. Of course, if you take a dog to a child, and an adult does not participate in this, this is not very good. But if a dog is taken into the family as its full member, that’s good.
From experience: Perhaps the only common feature of all French bulldogs is their mood for a person. If you sleep - and they doze, if you are awake - and they are active. If no one is home, they sleep.
There is no aggression towards people in French bulldogs. Our dogs are very fond of when guests come to us, and are convinced that everyone around us is kind, good people. French bulldogs are not guards.
But we have to work on everything. For example, for a dog to be able to show itself beautifully at the exhibition, you need a person who will deal with it. And if you raise a dog, it will never ruin anything.
The dog will be what a man brings it up. The only thing we cannot teach them is to live in a world with cats.
How do your dogs get along?
We never had a fight. They are quite compliant, but efforts must be thwarted to sort things out when the game shifts to "elevated tones."
How easy is it to train and educate a French bulldog?
Very easy! They study for one-two. French bulldogs even pass IPO standards.
Someone is easier to motivate for a treat, someone - for sounds. But you need to pick up some delicious treats - our dogs will only eat dried lungs.
Do you take dogs with you on trips?
It is problematic to take four dogs with us at once, but we usually take one or two.
However, almost all of our trips are timed to exhibitions - this is also our family vacation. Our dogs accompanied us to Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Germany, and Cyprus.
Is it difficult to care for a French bulldog?
Differently. After all, they even have a different coat structure.
From experience: I am often asked: do dogs molt. And in our country one dog does not shed at all - it doesn’t even have an undercoat, and from the second there is a disastrous amount of hair.
Some dogs love active walks, and some love couch potatoes.
And so in everything - everything is individual.
How are French bulldogs in good health?
Unfortunately, they do not live long. The average life expectancy is 8 - 10 years, and after 8 years they noticeably "pass", and old age comes abruptly. The class of veterans at exhibitions is almost always empty.
From experience: Our dogs eat natural food. This is difficult because they constantly have to cook. But it’s worth the effort, because French bulldogs often have allergies to dry food.
It is believed that French bulldogs themselves do not give birth: a cesarean section is necessary.
Weaknesses of French Bulldogs: heart and joints.
They also do not tolerate heat.
There are otitis, but this is rather an individual problem, not a pedigree one.
Veterinarians sound the alarm about French bulldogs: due to the fact that they breed dogs with an increasingly shorter muzzle, their health has deteriorated. Veterinarians even asked the breeders to return the dogs a more natural look. What do you think about this?
My idea of the perfect French bulldog: it's a short muzzle and a short but wide body.
French bulldogs are now a mega-popular dog, and progress does not stand still. I think it’s unrealistic to return a longer face to them.
I personally like that “Frenchman” as he is now - lower and shorter. From an aesthetic point of view, it is more beautiful. It may be worth cultivating wider nostrils rather than a longer muzzle.
What kind of owner does a French bulldog need?
It seems to me that if the “Frenchman” is dissolved, then a rather wayward, aggressive dog can turn out. Therefore, the French bulldog needs a master who can show what is possible and what is not. If a person does not have such an inner core, a French bulldog will not suit him.
A French bulldog may be the first dog, but in this case it is worth consulting with a specialist.
